*** workmanship

They removed the box to the air conditioning unit to put siding on. Today when we turned on the unit we found they had removed the fuses and another part. They either kept them or threw them away without telling us. I found the inside door on the ground by the unit. *** workmanship

User's recommendation: Don’t hire them.

Hansen Windows and Siding - Mankato, MN

In June 2017 we received a bid from Hanson Windows and Siding to side our house and add a gutter on the back porch. The bid was $5,000 cheaper than their competitors. Months went by and no siding. Each time I called they said they had only two more houses to do and would get to ours. In September they stopped answering the phone and wouldn't return messages. When I went to their office I found out they had moved three times and their last location is unknown. In October, the salesman Bob Prange, contacted me and told me "Just two more houses". We canceled the contract and asked for $1,000 deposit back. Bob said he would talk to the owner, Justin Hanson, but he hasn't gotten back to me and they are once again not answering their phone. Beware of doing business with this company. Peter K. Johnson Mankato MN 56001

False advertising

Had Hansens come out for an estimate for a new roof. High pressure salemanwas here for 2.5 hours! I am a female senior and felt I needed to sign. After he left I decided it was too much money and cancelled. I was promised free gifts for just getting the appraisal. After I cancelled, I got a high pressure phone call to reconsider. The estimate was$8800 for a 1000sq foot home. I got a roof with same warranty for $4100. I never got the supposed free gifts they advertise! False advertising!

Hansen Siding And Windows Estimate Review

Had them come out for an appraisal. Our home is approximately 1400 sq ft. They appraised a ranch style home with attached garage with dimensional shingles, no additional repairs at $ 16,000..... are you serious? The job we will go with (reputable competitor) $6000.

Gutter installed 10/2015

I ordered the Black WMS for my gutters (Smart Choice). Hansons installed the correct guards on my lower gutters. I was told you ran out of black WMS and therefore ordered additional black gutter guards. You returned a week later, last Wednesday to finish the job. I had a chance to look at it today and Hansons installed the cheep white gutter guards. Half of the upper gutter is not attached to the house! I paid $2900.00 for installation of gutters in the back of my house. I am glad I was reluctant to have gutters placed on the front of the house. I was also thinking on having new shingles installed in the near future with Hansons. Obviously I change my mind. I doubt this was a mistake when you can see the lower gutters have the black WMS.

Hanson's Siding and Gutters

Update by user Apr 08, 2013

Update, yes after over 2 months of additional hassle I did receive a call from Brian left on my cell phone leaving a phone number to call. I did follow up by calling that number and was directed to their warrenty department.

According to Hansons, once they sign off on a job and issues fall under that department. We had to have them come out twice to fix the gutters since they didn't do it correctly the first time.

I agree, I can't believe that they would be so off on their quotes. Brian personally never apologize to me in verbal or written form.

Pasted below is a letter I personally sent to Brian President at Hanson's. I just now found this sight, and wish I knew of these complaints sooner before I had to deal with this company. May my experience save someone else from the hassles and stress from this company: Dear Brian, I like to reach out to you regarding our Siding and Gutter installation that recently happened at my primary residence. First off, I'm not the kind of person who judges a business by their mistakes, I do judge a business by how often problems occur and how they are handled. I know your company advertises complete satisfaction or money back guaranteed and claim you have a High referral rate. I have never received a referral from anyone I know in Michigan for your company and based upon the experience I have had with your company I would not be doing referrals myself. By now your probably asking what possibly went wrong to receive this email. My first issue is with your sales department. I have had three sales representatives from your company visit my house. The first visit by a young man name Ryan who originally sold us on going with your company but he didn't follow through when we requested financing options. Over the course of 9 months we received calls from various hanson employees asking where we are at with the project in which we stated we were looking for you to get back with us with financing options and were told they get back to us. Fast forward 9 months later to now...Salesman number 2, (I'm sorry I don't have his name) only that he was almost gleeful in telling us that the ball was dropped because salesman #1 was lazy and Hanson fired him. Saleman #2 was here to save the day. He asked for our original quote around 9k then proceeded to tell us that the quote was no longer valid and the final cost would be over 20k. How can the same quote almost double within 9 month period. Sales #2 response "Petrolum, don't you know our product is made with it and the price of gas as gone up?" He also claimed that the price we were quoted was really low and that Salesman #1 must have not measured correctly. He was going to do a proper measurement. The funny thing was, we had the orignal measurement and when comparing the measurements he took they were exactly the same. (Way to throw your former employees under the bus) Clearly I would have thought this would have cleared up some confusion and he would be able to provide me a more accurate quote. I requested he contact whoever he could to come back with a more competitive quote in which he said he would but keep hammering away that he felt his 20k quote was reasonable/fair price. Simply put, I told him if that was his final answer I would not be using Hanson. I had to repeat that three times at my kitchen table and finally raise my voice so that he would finally get the hint that if he had nothing tangible to offer that I am not interested. He then accused me of being hostile towards him. At which point I showed him out of the door. If this is how he was going to treat potential clients, I was not interested in doing business with a company that trained it's employees that way. A couple of days later another Hanson employee called and asked what our decision was and I explained the inability to come to terms with said gentleman and they sent out Salesman #3 Gary. Gary had apologize on behalf of hanson's and offered a more competitive rate but not what we were quote on the original estimate. I did end up agreeing to the small increase in pricing, but my main concern was with your product and more importantly your service. The problems before Gary came were and still are big concern. Gary promised me "No Problems, Customer Satisifaction guarenteed" I'm here to tell you that wasn't the case. After we signed the contract, it took several weeks before we had anyone contact us on the progress of our project. I had to call your office to find out that everything was approved. Finally we recieve a installation date for our siding and held our breath hoping all will go well. With great surprise we had a wonderful contractor put up our siding and a first class project manager out of your cooperate office handle the communciation while the siding was being installed. She was prompt in calling before, during and after the install. We were very impressed with her. Now on the flip side we were transferred to a different project Manager for our gutters. It took almost a month to get our gutters put up on our newly sided home and only because we called an inquired on the installation. We recieved a call 3x from Project Cordinator Cia. Once to tell us the date of the install that never happened the date she originally schedule it for. We never received follow up from Cia during or after the project. In fact we had to call to ask when we were getting our gutters installed. That is when they found out a gliche in your system that said our job was completed. "Great, did you put my gutters on someone else's house because I'm looking at the house and there are no gutters" She later informed me that indeed there was a mix up with someone else job that day. Which brings me to this observation. Why would you require us to sign off on the siding but not the gutters to confirm a job was completed? Cia did call us 2x on the day we actually did get our gutters installed but never provided a follow up call after the job was completed to ensure the job was done correctly. In fact, it's still not completed correctly. Today I had to place another call out of my busy day to inform your Lansing office that I paid for an additional gutter spout that was never installed on my house. I spoke with Sam who told me he will try to figure out a time that he can get a contractor from your Vice President's company Gutter Grades of America to come out whenever they can fit that into their schedule. That in my opinion is unacceptable. I try to be a patient and tolerable person, but clearly now dealing with you as a company has caused nothing but stress and anxiety the last few months. Do you stand by your motto of Customer Satisfication or is that just lip service to get the sale. We work very hard and when we spend 10,000 dollars which is a very large investment in our home and get treated in the way we have it certainly does not make us happy. I am not asking for a refund, but I am asking for a quicker response to my problem. There was much much more that went on that I didn't have enough time or energy to put in this email. I certainly hope you put yourself in my shoes to see my point of view and find a way to resolve this. Still waiting for an answer....

This company is ripping us off.

Update by user Aug 02, 2012

Unfortunately, I can\'t post any additional information about this complaint, because legalities are pending. As soon as everything is resolved I will post again.

I will just say that I have become very educated in contractor/consumer law! In the meantime, anyone thinking of hiring this company....don\'t be a fool!

I have learned a very valuable lesson: Research a company thoroughly before signing a contract. We hired Hansen Siding and Windows to side our home, and dealt with Trent Doran - the sales person, whom I considered to be honest and forthright. We eventually signed a contract with them, because their estimate was reasonable and Trent Doran seemed to have integrity. Little did I know, the owner of the company - Justin Curtis Hansen, does not!! We had a major hail storm after signing the contract, but before they started the work. Our insurance company is replacing our roof, and once he found out that we had hired another company to replace our roof, he called me and tried to convince me that the roofers were going to rip me off and that I should cancel the contract and let Hansen do the roof too. When I told him no, he got angry and stopped trying work with us in any way. Now he is making us pay for items that are being replaced by our insurance, that the roofers are doing. In other words, we have to pay him for work that he will not do, because it is in the contract. He will not honor any verbal changes now either, because it isn't in the contract. There is a total of $1848.00 worth of work that he will not do, but we have to pay him for. I did manage to stop payment on a $10,000.00 check that we gave him, but we signed the contract and I am not sure what recourse we have concerning letting him do the work. I am now extremely worried about the quality of the job based on his actions so far plus the background check I have belatedly done. I'll just say that he has many legal and financial problems. Can anyone help us?

People in Mankato et the impression that Hansen siding and windows, Hanson Roofing, and Mike Hansen Roofing are all affiliated, however they are not. Just wanted to make sure that the innocent companies are not getting a bad wrap.

I can help - I have a lot of information about Hansen Siding. Avoid them at all cost. How can I get this info to you?

#496624

Thanks for posting Christine. The more people that post information, the better for consumers.

If people don't check out these contractors before hand, they can easily become victims. I, for one didn't check first, but he really messed with the wrong person this time.

I have very strong belief in people treating people fairly, and I refuse to be a victim. He doesn't have a leg to stand on concerning our contract, but now I am worrying about his future victims.

#495555

I know someone who worked for Hansen Siding. He wouldn't talk about it very much but I got the impression that something was very wrong with the company.

Once he left I asked him why and he just told me that he had "ethical differences" with Justin Hansen and Taylor Murphey.

I could tell he was relieved to get out of their. It gave me the idea taht their into some very illegal stuff

Hansen Siding & Windows Justin Hansen The Company is a Complete Fraud Mankato, Minnesota

Hansen Siding & Windows is awful. First, they are in the habit of scamming insurance companies by offering some shady side deals to get contracts sign. Beware, once you sign a contract and put money down, you cannot get in touch with them. They do not return phone calls. After investigating further, I found that the owner (Justin Hansen) has quite a long history. He has lots of misdemeanor violations including a few drug related arrests and convictions. Then I found that there is a federal tax lien and several state tax liens against him and the company. Based on what I saw, the taxes haven't been paid in years. The tax liens included failure to pay withholding taxes so it looks like they are stealing from their own employees also. There were also many judgements against the company. So they don't pay their bills either. All of this was a matter of public record so I can only imagine what else is going on that isn't. After thinking about all of this, I realized that any work they did would be second rate since they obviously need to worry about their internal problems. And they probably won't be around to warranty any work, anyways. The craziest is that the BBB gave them an A+ rating and they display it on their website. How is that possible?

I have now filed a complaint with The Minnesota Department of Labor and The Attorney General's Office! Who knew these resources were available?

I'm glad I found out before I was a complete victim of Justin Hansen. Evidently the Dept. of Labor doesn't look kindly to contractors who break the rules :) I am just waiting for the results now, but after talking to an investigator from the Dept.

of Labor, I feel pretty confident. Thanks for your advice - Waseca guy!

#492599

If you signed a contract it is legally binding then the contractor can put a lien against your property. You should report the fraudulent activity to your insurance company.

Most insurance companies have fraud units that will investigate. You should also report the problem to the attorney general's office. Do not give him any money. Then you should tell all your friends, neighbors, co-workers and anyone else that will listen.

If you don't get anywhere with those resources, hire a good attorney. Contractors like this one are the reason that insurance premiums are so high and homeowners hate hiring contractors. There are a lot of honest, good contractors out there - sorry you picked a bad one. Before choosing a contractor, you should always investigate thoroughly.

There are so many complaints about Hansen Siding and Windows all over the internet, I'm frankly surprised they are still in business.

Other reports include tax fraud, insurance fraud, drug problems, and horrible customer service. Do a google search and you will see a lot of bad news about this guy.

#486285

I also have learned a very valuable lesson: Research a company thoroughly before signing a contract. They are ripping us off and suggesting that we commit insurance fraud.

We had a hail storm and he wouldn't allow us to take items off that are being replaced by our insurance. HE IS MAKING US PAY FOR IT EVEN THOUGH HE WON'T BE DOING THE WORK, BECAUSE IT IS IN THE CONTRACT. He also will not honor any verbal changes to the contract. Once you sign the contract, you will pay that amount even if they don't do the work.

Does anyone know of a way to get out of this?? We haven't given him money yet :)
